My first year of teaching, I gave kids lots of prizes. Kids earned tickets in my class and we had a raffle at the end of each week. Typical rewards included candy, hot chips, sticker packs, miniature notebooks… basically, stuff I spent money on. It was nothing more than glorified bribery, it cost me an arm and a leg to keep it up, and it didn’t work to improve my students’ behavior. (In fact, I think it made it worse.)
